The End-to-End Performance Effects of Parallel TCP Sockets on a Lossy Wide-Area Network

چکیده
This paper examines the effects of using parallel TCP flows to improve end-to-end network performance for distributed data intensive applications. A series of transmission experiments were conducted over a widearea network to assess how parallel flows improve throughput, and to understand the number of flows necessary to improve throughput while avoiding congestion. An empirical throughput expression for parallel flows based on experimental data is presented, and guidelines for the use of parallel flows are discussed.

An efficient front-end for timing-directed parallel simulation of multi-core system
Manifold is a parallel simulation framework for multi-core systems. For full-system simulation, Manifold adopts the timing-directed simulation paradigm that separates the simulation into a functional front-end and a timing back-end. Components in the front-end perform functional simulation of the cores and send streams of instructions to the backend to simulate the timing behavior. In its curre...
متن کاملLT-TCP: End-to-End Framework to Improve TCP Performance over Networks with Lossy Channels
As wireless channels are becoming common, the performance of TCP over networks with such links is important. TCP performance suffers substantially when packet error rates increase beyond a value of about 1% 5%. This paper proposes an end-end mechanism to improve TCP performance over networks comprising lossy wireless link. The scheme separates the congestion indications from the wireless packet...
متن کاملDifferentiating congestion vs. random loss: a method for improving TCP performance over wireless links
Recent research has focussed on the problems associated with TCP performance in the presence of wireless links and ways to improve its performance. We present an extension to TCP Santa Cruz which improves TCP performance over lossy wireless links. TCP has no mechanism to differentiate random losses on the wireless link from congestion, and therefore treats all losses as congestive. We present a...
متن کاملA Multipath Transport Protocol for Future Internet
Our work aims to assess a multipath transport protocol named MPTCP (Multipath TCP), especially the various congestion control and coupling mechanisms considered for this protocol. Many authors propose to take advantage of the multiple paths that are often available for a data flow to improve its performance and its robustness to the varying transmission conditions. The different layers of the T...
متن کاملTCP Multiple drop action for transmission errors
In this paper we present a new TCP retransmission algorithm to recover from multiple non-congestion(transmission) packet drops from the same TCP window. This algorithm will help end-to-end error discriminators to improve TCP performance over lossy and heterogeneous networks. The simulation results shows that the proposed algorithm has increased TCP performance over different error rates without...
